Music Monday | Sept 23

Music Monday made it to day two. To summarize the stories — we both needed a pick me up. I  was having a hard time figuring out the exact song I wanted to send, as it can’t just be ANY song. I started thinking. I was down to a solid three and decided, “I’ll just send them all.” I started writing … and writing … and writing. And then it hit me. They were all wrong. I instantly opened Youtube and searched for a band from Vermont I had seen live back in Portland some years ago. I remembered their lyrics to be just the message we both needed to hear: “cause life is calling but you need healing now for all good reasons change is coming well change is coming for all good reasons now but you need healing for life is calling —- so hold up your head think of brighter days who cares they don’t look at you the same way make up the time this ain’t the end you better let …

Music Monday | Sept 16

Inspired by my love of music and two friends from university, I decided to start my own Music Monday with a new friend. Our time together has been short, but it’s been filled with laughter, food, a trip to the hospital — along with the realization that we both have soft spots for competition and discovering badass music. And even though it’s an unknown amount till we’ll get to wreak havoc in Spain together (hospital trips almost a guarantee), the beauty of technology allows us to fulfill our petty competitions across country boarders.  Beers are on the line for anyone who forgets a Monday. Let the games begin. First day, all good. Posts were submitted by 00:07 San Sebastian & at 00:13 Edinburgh — I started with my submission of a classic. An all time favorite band of mine that has been by my side through thick and thin; blasting through my truck speakers, driving through back roads and city streets in various countries; and in live performances of reenactments. They are THE BAND. I thought …

| I GUESS YOU NEED A VISA FOR THAT |

I left Las Palmas de Gran Canaria yesterday afternoon after a week of relaxing on the beach and working on the base for my summer tan. I hopped on a plane and set off to Scotland under the impression that I’d be volunteering at a Bed & Breakfast in a town called Dornie in the North. Assuming I was doing nothing wrong I approached the Border Control ready to quickly state my plans and pass through to get my bag and hunker down in the airport for a night of on & off sleep while I waited for my bus to the North in the morning. Let’s just say things didn’t go quite as planned . . . After playing a game of 20 questions with Mr. Border Control he took me aside and told me I had two options: 1) He refuses me entry to Scotland under the pretense that I was going to be working illegally in the country without a Visa. According to him, in order to volunteer one needs a Visa …

| WHERE’D ALL MY MONEY GO? OH RIGHT, COFFEE |

I didn’t realize how much money my trip would cost overall. I couldn’t be bothered to really think ahead and budget . . I decided to just go with the flow. Turns out, I ended up spending a little more than planned — surprise, surprise. I can say for sure that I lived well these past few months for only spending money and not earning any along my travels. I ate well. I stayed in nice hostels. I stayed with wonderful Couch Surfing hosts. I even bought a few clothes. I paid for most of my major transport prior to leaving the US in January, so not much of the money I had went towards that . . which in the end was one of the smarter decisions I made. Looking back on all my purchases throughout these past three months I can safely say there are a few things I shouldn’t have bothered to buy — but hey, that’s life. But nothing I bought has been useless or not somewhat worth it. The majority …
